The First Four Billfish of 2017:
January 4, 2017:
The Trips:
The Lady Lola was out early with her group, a dad and his daughter out for a fun day in Macao. The water was choppy on the way out, with small but short waves that didn’t provide a soft landing! After about an hour run, the lines were in the water and the fun began! Circling the FADs that have created the famed blue marlin hot spot to the north of Cap Cana Marina, Captain Humberto quickly found the mahi mahi; they ended up catching more than 20 throughout the day! They also released 1 out of 3 blue marlin raised. The best moment of the day was when first mate Christian single-handedly hooked up 2 sailfish on a double-header. All in all, it was an action-filled and fun day on the Lady Lola with a variety of billfish!
Meanwhile, the Emily sauntered out on a half-day trip closer to Cap Cana. This season, these 4-hour trips are great for mahi, but the sea had other plans. The Emily released 1 out of 1 blue marlin! They also hooked up a wahoo that had a nice size, but unfortunately it sunk those teeth on the line and cut if off when it was next to the boat.
It was a great beginning to 2017 with the first four billfish of the year!
The Boats:
The Emily, a 53′ Viking, is the most comfortable vessel on our fleet. She features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an upper galley, and a spacious salon with TV, a dining table with L-shaped banquette, and a large and comfortable sofa that comes in handy if you need to take a break from the sun!
The Lady Lola, our beautiful 42′ Bertram, is perfect for runs to Macao. She has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a lower galley, and a comfortable salon.
